High Speed Telegraphy (HST) is an amateur radio activity with nearly 60-year history in Europe. It is a sport adapted to amateur radio, recognized and supported by IARU. But first of all, it is a real challenge for the lovers of Morse code (CW). HST is a sport for both males and females and for any age – there are age categories, starting from children up to veterans. The sportsmen compete in four tests. The first two tests are reception and transmission of consequently: letter text, figure text and mixed text. Each text lasts one minute. The computer generates the reception texts, starting from initial speed 80 marks per minute and increasing the speed every minute with 10 marks per minute, until everyone gives up. In the transmission test any kind of Morse key/keyer is allowed. The aim (both in reception and transmission) is reaching as high as possible speed within one minute with as few as possible errors.

La telegrafia ad alta velocità (HST) è un'attività radioamatoriale con quasi 60 anni di storia in Europa. È uno sport adattato ai radioamatori, riconosciuto e sostenuto dalla IARU. Prima di tutto è una vera sfida per gli amanti del codice Morse (CW). L'HST è uno sport per maschi e femmine e per qualsiasi età: ci sono categorie di età, a partire dai bambini fino ai veterani.  Gli sportivi gareggiano in quattro prove. Le prime due prove sono la ricezione e la trasmissione di conseguenza:  testo lettera, testo figura e testo misto. Ogni testo dura un minuto. Il computer genera i testi di ricezione, partendo dalla velocità iniziale di 80 caratteri al minuto e aumentando la velocità ogni minuto di 10 al minuto, fino a quando tutti si arrendono. Nel  test di trasmissione è consentito qualsiasi tipo di tasto/keyer  Morse. L'obiettivo (sia in ricezione che in trasmissione) è raggiungere la massima velocità possibile in un minuto con il minor numero di errori possibile.

 The third test is reception of 50 call signs, generated by the computer (so called RUFZ test; that name is after its German abbreviation, because a German ham is its creator). The call signs are randomly generated, but they are real call signs, well known on the amateur bands. After any correctly received call sign the next one comes with higher speed, and the opposite – after any wrongly received call sign the next one comes with lower speed. The aim is to receive correctly as many as possible call signs.

 Il terzo test è la ricezione di 50 segnali di chiamata, generati dal computer (il cosiddetto test RUFZ; quel nome deriva dalla sua abbreviazione tedesca, perché un radioamatore tedesco è il suo creatore). I nominativi sono generati casualmente, ma sono dei veri e propri nominativi, ben noti nelle bande amatoriali. Dopo qualsiasi segnale di chiamata ricevuto correttamente, il successivo arriva con una velocità maggiore e, al contrario, dopo qualsiasi segnale di chiamata ricevuto in modo errato, il successivo arriva con una velocità inferiore. L'obiettivo è ricevere correttamente il maggior numero possibile di segnali di chiamata.

The fourth test is pile-up test (so called Morse Runner test). The computer simulates a real HF contest with a typical noise as on the air, with a numerous contestants calling you simultaneously and thus creating a strong QRM. The aim is to make as many as possible real QSOs within 10 minutes with correctly received and sent call signs of the correspondents and correctly exchanged RST reports.

La quarta prova è il test del pile-up (il cosiddetto Morse Runner). Il computer simula una vera gara HF con un rumore tipico come in onda, con numerosi concorrenti che ti chiamano contemporaneamente creando così un forte QRM. L'obiettivo è quello di effettuare il maggior numero possibile di QSO reali entro 10 minuti con nominativi ricevuti e inviati correttamente dai corrispondenti e rapporti RST correttamente scambiati.
